Black Widow Bud

Black Widow Bud is the first in our coverage series of the six hyrbid legal buds that International Oddities released. First off, what is a hybrid bud? Well, we don’t know exactly. The assumption here is that IO has practiced cross-breeding on their existing strains (mixing a male and a female plant) to create a hybrid. The result is something which should share the traits of the previous two strains while still being something unique in itself. Physically speaking, we can see that Black Widow comes in more dense looking buds. This density is a common theme amongst the hybrid blends, and is assumed to provide a more potent smoke.

The options for Black Widow include the standard 1/2 oz (half ounce), 1/4 lb (quarter pound), 1/2 lb, and 1 lb quantities. The box of bud option is also available for $25 + rolling papers. It is suggested however that you go for one of the larger options as the boxed buds do not tend to stay fresh as long and can become dried out which is a pain if you try and roll it later. It should also be noted on the topic of freshness that the can of bud (approximately 1 ounce) form factor is not available for Black Window. It would be nice to see if International Oddities later decides to add the option to order Black Widow in cans, as the canned bud is consistently the freshest on arrival (and keeps longer as well.) Lastly, Black Widow is included in the Shotgun 6 Pack which contains six tubes – one for each of the new hybrid buds (Albino Rhino, NE146, Skyscraper, Black Window, Crystal Ball, Blueberry.) The shotgun pack is actually a pretty good deal if you are looking to try any of the new hybrid buds, as it already contains Blueberry Bud and Skyscraper which we have loved for some time now. It would be cool if IO would let us pick-and-choose the strains we like, as adding Krypto Bud in there somewhere would make it a no-brainer.

We rolled up some Black Window and lit it up. The taste is the first thing to be measured, as the first draw gives the best impression. It tasted very natural and earthly, like sticky plant matter. The smoke itself was pretty thick, not airy like a filtered cigarette would be. By the time it was passed back and forth and finished, it was clear that Black Window was a heavy relaxing smoke. Personally I will also be partial to Blueberry Bud because I like a smoke that is sweet like candy.. but I would say as far as potency for relaxation goes Black Widow rank pretty high. If this is any indication of what is to come for the rest of the hybrid buds then it should be something to look forward to indeed.
