Yesterday I was given a chance to check out a strain called Krypto Bud. A friend of mine works Sunday through Thursday and as such he begins the celebration of his weekends on Thursdays instead of Fridays. So, last night (Thursday) I got a text message saying quote “yo got sum krypto wanna blaze?”. At first I wasn’t even sure what Krypto Bud was; though, I had a feeling it was as strain of legal bud because I had been raving to this friend before about my success stories with smoking legal bud. My friend had in the past tried my legal bud (specifically, he tried some of the Blueberry Bud that I purchased a week ago) but he had remained a die-hard fan of marijuana.

After receiving the text message (and replying that I would most certainly be up for trying a new product) I went online and researched Krypto Bud on google and learned that it is International Oddities‘ flagship legal bud. The company claims that they spent $2 million developing the legal bud and that it took over 1000 experiments to get it to where it is now. Personally I don’t fully believe that the company would have $2 million to spend on developing a single strain, but then again IO has been around for 30 years so perhaps it was done over a long period of time.

Anyways, my friend arrives at my place around 11:15pm (he gets off work late) and we immediately prepare for smoking. He hands me his bag Krypto Bud and I give it the usual smell/look inspection. Upon first inspection there were a few things I noticed;  I could not help but compare it to the Blueberry Bud that I had come to love so much. In comparison, it smelled a bit more “earthy” and natural… it smelled like you would expect a plant to, and not so much of a “fruity candy” smell like the Blueberry Bud had. Second, I was shocked at just how closely the Krypto Bud resembled the pictures found on International Oddities‘ website. We ground up a bowl’s worth and gave it the inspection again. The ground Krypto Bud actually looked a lot like ground marijuana, which in my experiences has been typical of International Oddities‘ products. Though sometimes other companies’ legal smoking blends have sticks and things in them which gives a less trusting look when ground (not that this is necessarily a sign of a poor product, it’s just less desirable visually). After the Krypto was ground I packed it in to one of my bongs and we were ready to go.

Impressions

Taste: The Krypto Bud tasted natural, like a fresh plant. It was actually quite refreshing to try a legal bud that did not try to force an artificially delicious taste upon my tongue. The end of the bowl could have tasted better but hey you can only ask for so much.

Smell: The smell of the Krypto Bud was that of burning plant matter. It did not smell nice like the Blueberry Bud from last week at all. The smell was described by a third friend (who refuses to put smoke of any sort in his lungs) as “bad, but better than the smell of burning marijuana.”

Effects: The onset of the effects for myself slightly delayed, taking roughly 5-10min to kick in. My friend said the Krypto Bud hit him way faster but he is also a bit of a lightweight. The effects for me were noticeable and steady… there was a tiny bit of daze but not so much as with other legal buds in the past. I would describe it as being similar to half a bowl of the real thing, but without the social anxiety.

Final Verdict: 8.5/10

Today my package of Splice – Original from IO arrived (and in a timely fashion, might I add). I decided to order a package of Splice based off a recommendation from a reader named Mike D. (also known as m4asterkushx). He told me that he had purchased a packet of Splice – Platinum and had enjoyed the extra “kick” that it gave to his bowls. If you take a look at International Oddities’ site, you will see that there are four different kinds of Splice: Original, Platinum, Green, and XXXX. If you are confused by the titles then don’t feel alone as I had and still have no idea what the difference between them are. As such, I felt the most scientific way to review this product would be to order the Splice Original and go from there.

So as you can see, quantity wise, not a bad deal for $20. But how does it smoke? I purchased the Splice with the intent to top off bowls with it to make them a little stronger – a little bit more special. Kind of like how you would take the kief from the bottom of your grinder and put it on top of your bowl on a special occasion. So, I decided the only fair way to test this product would be to throw some on top of a bowl of my favorite strain of legal bud: Blueberry Bud!

I could definitely see myself buying some Splice again, though next time I would probably try something other than the Original just to see what they are like. At $20-25 you can’t really go wrong. I already get a fair bit of “kief” off my legal bud grinding as is, but it would take a long time to capture as much as what comes in one packet of Splice. If you’re looking for a way to get more buzz from your smoke without going through your bud any quicker, then I highly (lol pun) recommend that you check out Splice Original. Now, today I have a special treat for you guys. I am going to give you my personal review of the Blueberry Bud strain from International Oddities which I purchased last Thursday. It all started off with an all-too-typical scenario: It was Thursday night, tomorrow was Friday, and my dealer was dry leaving me hanging for the weekend. I have ordered from International Oddities in the past (about 2 years ago) and to be quite honest, I was not that blown away. I mean, the effects were pretty decent… a bit less than the real thing, but you know, they did work about as well as I had expected. The taste however… and the smell… oh, the awful smell. Anyways, in an act of desperation I decided to order some Blueberry Bud and see how things went. And let me tell you – they went wonderfully!

Let me start off by saying: either I had chosen really poorly last time I ordered, or I have stumbled upon a hidden gem with this strain. The effects were, again, fairly typical of legal bud. Light headed, greater appreciation for nature and music, just general chillness. But the taste was the freakin’ opposite of the previous strain I had purchased. It tasted like… not quite like the taste of blueberries, but definitely fruity. Maybe like blue hubba-bubba gum, only less artificial tasting (if that makes any sense). The smell was pretty good too, considering it was burning. One of my friends, a fairly large (illegal) stoner actually complimented my bud on it’s pleasant smell saying “man that’s some dank smell weed”. I told him: “haha, this ain’t weed! It’s Blueberry Bud!“. He proceeded to tell me I’m an idiot because blueberry is a weed strain. Well, he is the one paying more for a product that smells worse, tastes worse, and has the same effects.
